Italy has enjoyed an increase in Chinese tourist arrivals each year since 2004

As reported by China.com.cn, the head of the Italian National Tourist Board stated in an interview with Chinese media that Chinese tourist arrivals for Italy was more than 1.5 million in 2014, and is likely to reach 4 million in 2015. According to news released by Il Sole 24 Ore, China has now become the largest tourist source market for Italy, a title which has been previously held by Germany, the United States and Japan.

Statistics show that the number of Chinese tourists in Italy grows at a speed of 18% every year. According to Diao Shuang, the assistant to the General Manager of CYTS Standard Products Department, “Italy is one of the first-choice European destinations for Chinese citizens. Ever since Europe opened up its tourism for Chinese citizens in 2004, the Italian Embassy has issued the most, or second most, Schengen ADS visas every year.” Currently, Chinese tourists travelling to Italy are of a range of age groups. Milan, Rome, Florence, Venice, Pisa and Naples are the most popular Italian tourism destinations for Chinese tourists.
